Why Visit Majuli?

Majuli is the world's largest inhabited river island, cradled in the Brahmaputra River and recognized as India's first island district. This tranquil, flat expanse of land carries a spiritual weight far beyond its geography — it is the heartland of neo-Vaishnavite culture in Assam, home to centuries-old satras (monastery-communes) that preserve classical Assamese dance, music, mask-making, and religious philosophy.

Far from crowded, Majuli rewards slow travelers: cycling through golden paddy fields, watching masked dance performances at dusk, and drifting on the Brahmaputra as the sun melts into the horizon. The island also hosts migratory birds between November and February.
